1. Ezekiel bread
Ezekiel bread is a healthful bread that got its name from a Bible verse that mentions an ancient process of bread making.

These grains are whole, unaltered grains. Some Ezekiel bread contains other ingredients, such as sorghum or sesame.
The grains in Ezekiel bread are allowed to sprout before the flour-milling process. The thinking is that sprouting increases the nutrients available in the bread, while also reducing the impact that the carbohydrates in the bread have on blood sugar.

- 3 ounces (oz) cream cheese
- one-eighth of a teaspoon (tsp) sea salt
- Preheat the oven to 300°F. Line a baking sheet with lightly greased parchment paper.
- Separate the egg whites from the yolks.
- In a large bowl, whisk the egg whites with an electric mixer until they form stiff, foamy mounds.
- In a second bowl, mix the egg yolks, cream cheese, and salt.
- Fold the egg whites into the second bowl, being careful not to knock the air out of them.
- Scoop the mixture into bun-sized dollops on the baking sheet and bake for approximately 30 minutes until golden.

3. Eggplant disks
A more straightforward alternative to sandwich bread is eggplant.
People can cut the large end of eggplant into disks that are 1-inch thick, season them to their liking, and then grill or bake them. Once they have cooled, these disks can be the base for a burger.
For a deli-style sandwich, cut the eggplant lengthwise to form larger slices.
4. Portobello mushroom burger buns
People can also use large grilled or baked portobello mushrooms in place of bread.
They can add the mushrooms to the grill during barbecue season to make low-carb burger bun substitutes. These may have a more substantial mouthfeel than other bread alternatives.

Great Low Carb Bread Company
If you’re on a low-carb diet, it’s worth your time to try your hand at this low-carb bread recipe. It’s made with almond flour, eggs, and oil, and contains about a third of the carbs of regular bread. It’s moist and dense and works perfectly as breakfast toast or for your lunch sandwich preparation.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Carefully separate 6 eggs, placing the yolks in a large bowl and the whites in a medium-size bowl.
- Place the 2 whole eggs in the large bowl with the yolks and add the oil. 4. Beat together with a fork or whisk until smooth.
- Add the almond flour, baking powder, and a pinch of salt to the egg yolk mixture. Stir the mixture with a spatula until well incorporated and set aside.
- Add the cream of tartar to the egg whites and beat with a hand mixer until stiff peaks form.
- Use a rubber spatula to transfer ⅓ of the whipped egg whites to the almond mixture and gently fold the batter together.
- Add the next ⅓ of the whites to the batter and fold in until smooth.
- Gently fold in the remaining egg whites just until the batter is smooth and no white streaks remain.
- Line the bottom of an ungreased loaf pan with parchment paper and pour in the batter.
- Bake for 40 minutes, until the top has set and formed a golden crust.
- Let the loaf cool for 10 minutes before running a thin knife along the inside of the pan to release the sides of the loaf. Gently unmold the loaf from the pan and remove the parchment paper on the bottom.
- Let the cake cool at room temperature for 1 hour before slicing.

Matt and Megha have some of the most informative and comprehensive keto content out there, so when they emailed me asking me if I was interested in a collab video, it seemed like a great idea. For a light, springy keto bread, there are a couple of things to keep in mind. Sift the almond flour before using it; this weeds out the lumps and gives you a smoother batter. If you don’t have the cream of tartar to stabilize the egg whites, use a few drops of lemon or vinegar instead. Also, use a very, very light hand to fold in the egg whites into the batter to keep from deflating it. If you find this bread too eggy, leaving it overnight in the fridge seems to help reduce that aftertaste.

In the past few years, the bread market has expanded to include tons of healthy options filled with whole grains, fiber and minimal added sugar to help you get your toast fix. Plus, many of the healthier options are also relatively low in carbs (less than 15 grams per serving).
But with so many bread on the market, it can be overwhelming-and sometimes stressful-to choose the best option. These aren’t lettuce wraps or cauliflower-based, so they still have whole grains and carbohydrates. The key is, these bread are lower in carbs than others on the market. Whole grains deliver fiber, energy and B vitamins to your diet, so we don’t recommend cutting out carbs entirely. But if you’re watching your carb intake, these bread can still fit.
